BabelMap

BabelMap provides you with a map of the entire Unicode character collection. It places about 138.000 characters right in front of you, and it lets you sift through them and search for specific characters, either by name or code point. What's more, the application lets you set individual characters aside and copy them to the clipboard, so that you can use them in other Unicode-supporting applications.

The software comes as a single executable, packed in a ZIP archive, so you only need to extract it and run it, without going through a lengthy installation process. It works on Windows 2000 and all later editions, up to Windows 10, and you can also find older, but unsupported BabelMap, which can be used even on Windows 95.

BabelMap displays all the Unicode characters it knows in a grid, directly on its main user interface. You can scroll through the characters, though it would take a long time to find what you're looking for. A better way is to select a Unicode block in a drop-down menu, beneath the characters grid, to jump directly to a character family. You can also search for characters by typing their name or part of it in an input field or by typing a character's code point if you know it.

When you select a character, the application will type it automatically in a text box, in the lower region of its user interface. At this point, you can enable or disable simple rendering, and choose to display the characters as NCR or UCN sequences or as HTML entities. Once you have the characters you need in the text box, you can save them in a file on your hard drive or copy them to the clipboard and paste them directly in another editor, if it supports Unicode.
